Creating SEO-friendly graphic web design content

What is Graphic Web Design?

What does the term mean? Graphic Web Design typically refers to reworking some or all of the content of your website to focus more on graphical aspects instead of textual context. This is normally done to provide “prettier fonts” and “smoother edges” on some of the text. Possibly special effects (such as drop-shadows) are possible on graphical text (a .jpg image of text, for instance), whereas on raw text, most fonts are traditionally rendered blocky and ugly, even by modern browsers (even worse, the traditional list of “web-friendly” fonts is markably short!). The graphic web design website should never have ugly text, of course!

A Website heavily focused on graphics can often have a difficult time with search engine indexing due to a lack of textual content. This can often mean poor search engine traffic results.

Typically, a graphic web design will focus on maximizing the visual impact of the website. Unfortunately, this has the side effect of minimizing the impact on the search engine, which focuses primarily on structure, content and tags.

Most graphic web design websites also primarily use flash content, so even the “human-readable” text portions of their websites are lost to the search engines. Flash-only websites should typically be avoided until a better solution is found!

Why won’t my graphic web design site show in the search engines?

It’s probably there somewhere. On page 10… or 20… maybe 30… It depends on the terms you are trying to target. An abstractionist painter, for instance, would target the terms “abstract art”. In this case, the particular keyword term is likely to be fairly saturated on the search engines, and likely by historical and information pages about “abstract art” and/or “artists”… This is very problematic for the graphic web design website that just wants their work to be seen!

How can I get my graphic web design website to rank well?

Graphic Web design websites (the “Photo-gallery” websites) are still traditionally difficult to rank well. In this case, it is vitally important that every consideration be taken to all parts of the website structure. In particular, file names, image names, and particular title/alt tags for the HTML source of the image will traditionally help.

It is also extremely important that text be intermingled with images. This will provide search engines much greater accessibility to the content of the pages and over time will eventually help the site’s ranking dramatically. Sometimes we have to sacrifice our pretty fonts to give the search engines something to read too!!

Design Website Content

To attract visitors to your website, it is necessary to develop content for your website and design the website content carefully based around several tenets of website design based around content. By designing your website content with a focus on your chosen key terms, you can stand out even in a saturated market.

This article is an SEO experiment to test the order of keywords and their relevance in search engine placement for any particular keyword search. Reading it straightforward may be somewhat difficult, but if you are interested in learning about my experiment with the keyword terms design, website, and content, then feel free to read on. There is still great information contained within about designing your website’s content with a focus on the search engines, and how to leverage website content design to your advantage.

Primarily, you want to determine a few key phrases that you will want to focus your article on, and write heavily based around those keywords. For this article, I have focused on the specific phrase “website design content”. This is also an experiment on my part to optimize the content of this particular page with the content focused on that particular 3-word search term. So, the primary content of this article will be on “website design content” compared to the phrase “design website content”. The search terms themselves seem to have equal ranking as far as volume of searches; in other words, “DESIGN” “WEBSITE” “CONTENT” seems to have equal volume in relation to how many people are searching, compared to a search for “Website” “Design” “Content”. They key difference is in the “advertiser competition”, or how much people are actually paying “per-click” for a particular rank in the sponsored results section.

Now, on to the useful information:

Every single part of your website is relevant when it comes to your website’s ranking for a particular keyword search. Your Domain name, your file name, the way your website is designed, the particular content design of your website, as well as the particular tags that you are using to emphasize the differently designed content aspects of your website. Image names used within the document, tags used to describe images, header tags used to describe section content; all of this is an import part of your website content design. Did you highlight your chosen keyphrase, perhaps make it bold? There is some indication that focusing attention to this type of content can also help increase a website’s placement for any given keyword/phrase search.

By paying attention to not just the content of your website design, but also how your website design content is structured, it is possible to increase ranking for your designed website’s content.

In review, here is what you need to know about website design content:

Focus on the search engines! Understand that they do not need to “read” your website the same way that you or I do! A search engine cares mainly about the content of your website design, and the way your website design content is used within the body of your website, including it’s tags!

Useful information about Designing Website Content:

Don’t be afraid to restate the same idea several times. As long as it is said somewhat differently, basic content in a website design can be used in several places. The goal of this article is to reach a specific word count, and based on the content of my website design, I will also focus the website’s content and design around those keyphrases with the goal of obtaining a particular “percentage” density of those keywords.

Want more information about website design content?

I realize this article is repetitive somewhat, but that is kind of the point: if you have read this far, you may be interested to know my findings when I have concluded my experiment. I will post them in the comments section when this website design article is finalized. So far the content has been entertaining to write, and if I have to use designing website content in a phrase any more, I am afraid I will go crazy!

So you Want a Website?

(Don’t let the scary wall of text scare you! It’s not too bad)

GREAT! So you want a website? Now what???

Well, it is natural to assume that you will (probably) want to register a domain name. Pick a good one! It will stick with you for awhile!!!

Next step in a website is hosting! Website hosting is essentially storage space for your website’s files, but it gets abit more complicated than that (But not too much!)

(You can probably skip this next part if you want)

Technically, the web server that hosts your website is also responsible for “serving” that content to the rest of the world! This is why it is called a “server”, and the operating system (OS) of the server runs similiarly to your own personal computer! A Website Host will typically run Windows or Linux, with different capabilities for each type. For the most part, you will want a website host company that has both options open to you. The majority of websites (being mostly HTML) will run just fine on either platform. Specific applications (such as Wordpress, the application that powers the blog you are reading now) will experience greater compatibility on a Linux platform for the most part, and many web developers prefer Linux hosting (since most applications developed for Linux are open source, there are MANY free applications available (correctly referred to as “scripts”). Additionally, many of these open-source applications will have an extremely wide variety of themes and plugins available to customize your website with very little effort! This is GREAT news! It means you can have a fully functioning, interactive website hosted and live with VERY little effort or learning! There are other methods to building a website, so sometimes it can be tough to choose. Let me know if a free consultation interests you and I will be glad to help guide you to a solution.

(Ok, Keep Reading)

For the most part, you can build ANY type of website on almost any type of hosting plan or package, including a full eCommerce site if you choose, with very little experience and next to no programming required (if any!)

Next, you need to decide on an overall purpose for your website. Will it be just a basic layout, super simple? You could get away with a website design software utility for that purpose. Alternatively, you could hand-code HTML or a scripting language of your choice, but who wants to do that?!?! If you do not have website design software, you could consider using a blogging platform, such as Wordpress, or even a full-fledged CMS (Content Management System) such as Joomla or Drupal. These work great, and are easy to get up and running. All of our website hosting includes installers for these and other applications to make hosting a website super easy! We encourage you to explore your options and make the decision to FINALLY bring your website online! If you have questions about specific goals/needs, feel free to ask: we love comments. You can also use our free consultation to help make the right decisions.

If you’ve enjoyed this long-winded article, please share it on your favorite social networks! I’m sure your friends would like it too! Thanks, and have a great day!

Is Domain Registration different than hosting?

Is Domain Registration different than hosting?

It seems like a fairly simple question. Domain Registration is very different than hosting. When you register a domain, this essentially means that you “own” that domain name.  Typically a domain will be auto-renewed, so a domain can be registered essentially forever, but only for a maximum of 10 years at a time. Everything has to be able to expire at some point!

When you register a domain, there are 4 types of contact information that are required to be publicly available. These are the registrant (the legal “owner” of the name, which CAN be a business), the administrative contact (Typically the person responsible for domain administrative functions, such as DNS management, the technical contact (mostly in charge of the website), and last, the billing contact (responsible for billing issues regarding the domain, as well as billing issues for the particular company, depending on the domain owner’s preference). Typically, all 4 contact types will be exactly the same.

Most domain registration providers (registrar) provide some sort of privacy service, to allow this information to remain hidden from public view. Consider adding privacy to your domain to keep your name, address, phone number, and email address off the public registry!

So how is domain registration different than hosting?

Domain registration is ownership on a particular name, and hosting is a general term given to server space that is designed to serve a website. Essentially, hosting means that there is a server specially designed to show your pages to the internet. A Website, then, is what somebody sees when they actually visit your Domain. You can have a domain registered, but not hosted. You can have hosting, but no website, oddly enough! (Hosting is setup, but you have not provided website content (HTML)). But, you cannot have a website, without website hosting, and a registered domain that “points” to your hosting account (refers to how the DNS is setup for your domain; don’t worry about that for now!)

So, what do I need to host and design a website?

For the most part, our hosting packages are designed to serve the needs of the majority of websites, and you will be able to use the site-builder of your choice to easily design a website. There are also incredibly easy-to-use applications to help you get your site only quickly! Consider using Wordpress, a popular choice among bloggers and other website designers (How-to-Install-Wordpress : It’s EASY!). We have a built-in installer to make building a Wordpress site easy! There are also many different applications to design your website: you can use a template-style of website builder or another application such as iWeb or Dreamweaver.

There are countless ways to actually build the website! All you have to decide is how great you want it to look!

What is domain registration?

What is Domain Registration?

Domain registration represents ownership of a domain name. There are many different “top-level domains” (TLD), such as the dotCom (.com) we’re all familiar with, as well as .Net, .Org, .Biz, .mobi, .info, .us, and a whole list of other TLD’s that are mostly thought to be “country-code” specific. These are called ccTLD’s, and can often have restrictions on domain registration based on the owners country of origin.

Is Domain registration expensive?

Domain registration is considered to be the least expensive part of owning a website, and domain registration is easy! Most domain extensions can have their domain registration acquired for less than 10 dollars! Since it is so easy to register a domain, many new online businesses are encouraged to register domains in bulk. Domain registration in bulk can help protect your online-branding, as well as provide more search engine visibility.

Why register a domain?

Even if you do not currently plan to have a website, sometimes it is more important to register your ideas well in advance to ensure the domain is ready for you to use, when you need it. Considering that someone could just as easily register a domain at nearly the same time you might be considering the same idea, domain registration is a perfect way to lock in your online future, maybe even before your website ideas are fully formed.

Optimizing SEO: Spiderability

Optimizing Web Site Spiderability

Search engine spiders scan your Web site’s content by following the links that connect the pages on the site. Thus, when a spider visits a Web site, it will crawl through the site’s pages by following the hypertext links in each of the site’s pages until all of the pages have been read and considered for indexation. Broken or “uncrawlable” links will prevent the spider from visiting certain pages on the site. If, however, all the Web pages on a site are linked to each other with functional hyperlinks, a visiting spider will peruse every nook and cranny of the site. It is, therefore, of the utmost importance that all of your Web site’s internal hyperlinks are spiderable.

Most spiders still cannot read links that are built with Flash animation, image maps or JavaScript. Therefore, if the submitted Web site contains any such links, consider replacing or replicating those links with regular hyperlinks, so that search engines can read the links and thus spider the site.

Hosting Wordpress

Hosting a Wordpress blog is a great way to bring a website online.
Wordpress is typically thought of as “just a blog”; but with the wide variety of plugins available, Wordpress can host a wide variety of websites, from a traditional “blog” type of website, to a full-featured interactive website, with video interactivity, music, community-based plugins, and even “twitter-style” comments that update on the fly.
Wordpress is open-source, which means it is provided freely. This also means that there are literally thousands of free plugins available, as well as themes to help design your Wordpress site. In fact, designing and hosting a site using Wordpress is a very common way for beginners to get online easily. Wordpress manages content for you, and all the designer needs to do is type articles and paste in images. The built-in editor for Wordpress is easy to use as well, and since Wordpress is a template based Designer, your Wordpress website will have a very consistent look and feel to it.

We hope you enjoy hosting a Wordpress site and designing a Wordpress blog.

We have domain registration services available as well as hosting packages built to support Wordpress, as well as many popular CMS software.

Twitter marketing sucks!

Yes, you read that correctly.

Twitter.Marketing.Sucks.

Pipe down, pipe down, don’t get all huffy bish. Most of the twitter big-wigs will disagree, because it’s the best thing since sliced bread as far as they’re concerned. They’ve already “gone viral”, or any other nonsense buzzword you can think of… What the crap do they care? They post (or rather, their well-paid troubadours post) and the masses click incessently. OOOOoooo look another post from that @guy, must be important. Oh LoOoOoOOOK it’s about how vital twitter is to your marketing!!! This must be ‘portant! Even though it’s the same garbage they spew for 90% of their own posts… same crap, different hash-tag…

PFEH! and FIE! Twitter was never meant as a marketing tool, you fool! It had it’s moment, sure… but you can’t really get a meaningful message across in 140 characters or less. People in general have learned to ignore the pitches and use it for a quick communication tool. That MLM program you signed up for that promises riches from Twitter? YES that’s right! They lied?!?!?! Oh wait, don’t be surprised. They probably aren’t making money from it either (I can photoshop a clickbank account screen-shot too, ya know?).

You really thought people with THIS short of an attention span can be bothered to read your 300-mile long “Squeeze Page”… but wait, it’s gotta video on it! BLAH.

Here’s the deal: the people that claim twitter is great for marketing, already have 100K+ followers. It “looks” great for marketing because the click-happy masses will click just about anything put in front of them. Add something useful, add some intrigue, be inquisitive and a magnificent bastard all at the same time. The only reason they care to reply to your post is because they hope some mind-numbed moron will click on their URL that they’ve left in their signature field…

Love it or hate it, Twitter’s great for communicating 140 characters at a time. But it sucks for straight marketing. If that’s all you hope to get out of it, go ‘way.
